Weddings & celebrations

Embsay with Eastby Village Institute is an ideal venue for family celebrations such as wedding breakfasts and christenings that involve sit-down meals, entertainments and fun. No one special day is the same, and we can help make yours as personal as you are with the flexiblility and facilities to help you celebrate in your own style and make magical memories.

With a little decoration, the main hall can be made to look far from ordinary, and we have 130 chairs - newly upholstered in 2018 - and tables of various sizes that can be set up by our caretaker in whatever format you need to seat up to 120 people.

During the day the main hall is a light and airy space thanks to the floor to ceiling-height windows and modern, LED lighting (fitted in 2018). For a more intimate, party atmosphere, the heavy curtains can be drawn and the ambiance enhanced with coloured lighting that you may choose to bring.

We are more than happy for you to employ external entertainment providers, such as DJs and live bands. The hall is fitted with numerous electrical sockets for their equipment and it would be possible, by negotiation, for them to use the stage area.

Catering for your celebration is no problem, with the modern, well-equipped kitchen (available at no extra charge) for you to either prepare your own food or hand over to an external caterer for them to take the culinary strain. The supper room, with connecting doors from the kitchen and into the hall, could be used as a food preparation or buffet area, helping to make your food service easy, quick and efficient.

The supper room could also make a pleasant ante-room to the main hall, perhaps as a quiet room for conversation or a bar area (subject to you obtaining the necessary alcohol licence and paying the Institute's bar fee). Alternatively, a bar could be situated in the reception foyer or in the hall itself, in the side alcove where there is a sink and hand wash basin.

For after-dinner speeches, the hall is equipped with a loop hearing system and a microphone is available to use with the sound equipment.

And if that's not enough, the village of Embsay is a lovely place to hold your celebration. Situated less than two miles from Skipton, on the southern edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, it is easy to find and boasts two inns (The Elm Tree Inn and The Cavendish Arms) and three Bed and Breakfast providers in addition to The Elm Tree (Crown Cottage Farm, Rockwood House and Bondcroft Farm).

If you feel the Institute might be the right place for your celebration, we would love to hear from you and talk through what you are looking for and what we can do to help. Rather than making a booking online, we would strongly advise you to contact us to discuss your special day.
